TV Remote Control

May was a tough month for all terrestrial stations, with year on year revenue falls seen amongst all stations. The biggest hit was seen by Channel 4, which fell by 6.9% on May 2007’s revenue total.

Despite the extended ratings success of Britain’s Got Talent, ITV1 revenue fell by 3.2% year on year to stand at £120.68 million for the month.

Meanwhile Five, which had the second biggest year on year drop, took in £24.31 million for the month, down 6.5%.

Total Satellite saw its revenue total increase by 11.5% year on year, to stand at £95.36 million.

ITV Franchises

According to our agency estimates Central achieved the greatest share of ITV1 revenue. The Midland franchise area took 15.91% share of the network’s total revenue. The next best performance came from London weekday franchise area Carlton, with 15.01%.

London weekend franchise LWT saw the best year on year increase in share, going up by 0.32 percentage points to stand at 11.53% for May 2008.

West Country maintains its position as ITV1’s smallest provider of revenue, remaining at 2.08% for May 2008.

Costs Per Thousand

ITV1 cost per thousands price fell across all our featured audiences. The biggest decrease in price came from Housewives with Children, down by 15.7% year on year.

In contrast to the main commercial channel, Channel 4 saw increases across the board for our featured audiences, with Housewives with Children recording the dearest price increase (16.6%).

Five saw all but two of our featured audiences decrease in CPT price. The biggest price rise being Housewives with Children, up by 14.3% year on year. The only other audience to increase its CPT price was Men, up 0.4% on May 2007.

Commercial Impacts

ITV1 saw all featured audiences improve year on year for commercial impacts, with Housewives with Children up 14.9% on May 2007. Men, 8.4% higher than twelve months ago, recorded the next biggest increase.

All featured audiences decreased for Channel 4 during May 2008. The biggest drop was recorded amongst Housewives with Children, down by 20.1% year on year.

Five saw all commercial impacts slump across all featured audiences, with Housewives with Children falling the most, at 18.2% year on year.

Total Broadcast recorded year on year rises for all featured audiences, with ABC1 performing best, up 5.6% on May 2007.
