TV Market Round-Up – September 2007

TV Remote Control September saw a marked improvement for all the terrestrial channels following on from last month’s year on year losses. The best year on year performance came from ITV breakfast station GMTV, which rose by 14.3% to stand at £ 5.51 million.

ITV1 network revenue increased by 3.4%, to stand at a total of £ 136.05 million. While Channel 4 went from £65.08 million last September to stand at £68.13 million this year, a 4.7% year on year increase .

Five posted a monthly revenue figure of £ 28.76 million, which equated to an improvement of 3.2% on last year’s figures

Satellite continues to grow, with this month’s revenue nearly breaking the £100 million barrier, Across the whole satellite network the amount of revenue taken in was £96.09 million, an increase of 14%

ITV Franchises

Central edged out Carlton to remain provider of the largest share of ITV1 revenue. For the month of September, the Midlands franchise area had 15.91% share of the network’s revenue (a fall of 0.69% points).

LWT had the best year on year increase, rising by 1.83% points.

Once again West Country attained the smallest share of the network’s revenue, with 2.19% for September.

Costs Per Thousand

All but two of our featured CPT audiences were more expensive to reach on ITV1, with Housewives with Children the most expensive last year. The price for Housewives with Children stood at £62.05 per thousand, up 6.2% compared to September 2006.

For Channel 4, all our featured audiences were more expensive than last year. Women recorded the biggest increase of 8.4%.

Five also had across the board price increases, with all featured audiences at least 10% more expensive than September 2006. ABC1 Adults attained the greatest price increase, up 23.8% year on year for the month.

Commercial Impacts

ITV1 had a fairly steady month with only impacts for Women and Housewives with Children falling year on year amongst our featured audiences. The best performing audience was Men, increasing 3.8% on September 2006.

Channel 4 continued to have a tough time with all but one of the audiences decreasing year on year. The greatest fall of commercial impacts could be seen by Women, which dipped by 3.4%.

Five saw falls across featured audiences, with ABC1 Adults dropping the most, by 8.9% year on year.

All of Total Broadcast’s featured audiences fell year on year, with Women achieving the biggest dip, down 5.8%.
