TV Overnights: BBC One’s Panorama special secures the peak slot

BBC One’s new prime time documentary Kids in Care attracted the highest ratings during the all-important 9pm to 10pm slot last night.

The hour-long Panorama special, which looked at the kind of life the care system has to offer children following high-profile cases of abuse such as Baby P, secured over 3.7 million average viewers and a 16.4% share, pipping ITV1’s 71 Degrees North to the top spot.

The fifth episode of ITV1’s celebrity show pulled in 3.3 million average viewers and a 14.8% share during the peak-hour, while Channel 5’s popular CSI: Miami picked up 2.2 million viewers and a 10% share.

Elsewhere, Ramsay’s Best Restaurant attracted a decent 1.4 million average viewers and a 6.2% share for Channel 4, while BBC Two’s 9pm to 10pm slot was shared between Whites and Harry & Paul.

Whites picked up 1.9 million average viewers during the 9pm to 9.30pm slot, before Harry & Paul banked 1.8 million viewers during the second 9.30pm to 10pm slot.

Earlier on in the evening, BBC One secured a peak run from 7.30pm onwards with Eastenders and Holby City. The channel’s flagship soap won a high of more than 9.2 million viewers, while Holby peaked with 6.1 million viewers between 8pm and 9pm.

Over on ITV1, Emmerdale attracted over 6.7 million viewers and a 33.2% average audience share between 7pm and 7.30pm. The soap has been highly publicised this week in the lead up to its dramatic train crash storyline.
