TV Overnights: Britain’s Got Talent wins the weekend top spot

Britain's Got Talent

ITV1’s Britain’s Got Talent dominated the weekend ratings with an impressive high of more than 11.2 million peak viewers.

The Saturday-evening show attracted over 10 million average viewers and a 42.9% audience share for ITV1 during the prime time slot.

ITV1 also secured the top spot on Sunday evening with the new series of Lewis, which pulled in more than 7 million average viewers and a 28.4% audience share between 8.30pm and 10pm.

However, on the whole, BBC One banked most of the daytime ratings this weekend with its coverage of the Spanish Grand Prix, Football Focus and political programmes such as The Andrew Marr show and The Politics Show, following last week’s general election.

On Friday, BBC One also claimed the peak-hour top spot with Ashes to Ashes, which picked up almost five million average viewers and a 21.7% share.

Before that, the channel’s flagship soap Eastenders attracted a high of 8.2 million viewers and a 37.4% share.
