TV Overnights: Drama on the dales wins 6.7m viewers

EmmerdaleWednesday evening’s episode of Emmerdale (7pm) secured the biggest audience of the day, bringing in 6.7 million viewers for ITV1.

31% of the available audience watched as Chas and Cameron sat down for a good natter about their respective love lives but opted for a spot of pashing instead. 338,000 of those viewers opted to view the Yorkshire Dales in high-definition on ITV1 HD.

Live UEFA Champions League followed immediately after featuring the Barcelona v Bayer Leverkusen game with Adrian Chiles presenting. An average audience of three million viewers tuned in for the entire programme, which ended in a 7-1 win to Barcelona. The eventful game kicked-off at 7:45pm – with the audience peaking at 3.6 million around 8pm.

Up against the Champions League game was the second episode of Food Inspectors over on BBC One. Matt Allwright visited a farm where cows were being checked for tuberculosis in the second episode of the hard-hitting investigative show, pulling in an impressive 4.7 million viewers in the process.

School drama Waterloo Road followed at 8pm and secured an audience share of 20%. 4.5 million people tuned in as deputy head Tim found drugs in a student’s pocket. Afterwards, at 9pm, the four remaining contestants in Masterchef had to prove their worth working with dreaded pastry. On average 4.5 million viewers watched throughout the entire episode but as usual the audience shot up to five million in the last 15 minutes as Jay was sent home after having a very bad day.

Three million people tuned in for the 10th episode in the current series of One Born Every Minute, which dealt with expectant mother Sheree’s horror as the realisation dawned on her that she was no longer in control of her bodily functions. The maternity reality programme secured Channel 4’s biggest audience of the day and a 13% audience share.
