Emmerdale and Coronation Street managed to pull the peak audience away from BBC One last night, if only for a short time.
The Olympics on BBC One once again dominated the ratings throughout the day, with the noticeable exceptions of the of the much loved duo.
Emmerdale and Coronation Street on ITV1 managed an average audience of 5.2 million and 6.4 million respectably, higher than BBC’s Olympic coverage between 7pm to 7.45pm. This figure gave the soaps 23.9% and 27.9% of the TV audience.
The second episode of Coronation street shown at 8.30pm managed 6.1 million viewers, while BBC One banked nearly eight million viewers during the swimming finals.
Eastenders on BBC Two filled the 8pm slot with an average audience of 5.6 million but was also second to the Olympics. BBC One has proved a tough obstacle to beat.
6.2 million people turned on to BBC One watch Peter Waterfield and Tom Daley’s dive at 3.30pm with a massive 52.1% of the audience share. BBC Three also enticed a peak audience of 3.8 million to cheer on Team GB’s gymnasts to medal glory.
