The prime time slot on Saturday was left out in the cold by ITV1’s 6.15pm to 8.45pm slot which saw it show the fourth Harry Potter film ‘The Goblet of Fire’.
As part of its Harry Potter season, ITV1 is showing every film in the record breaking series in honour of the cinema release of the final film – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.
The box office smash averaged 4.7 millions viewers on Saturday, gaining a quarter of all terrestrial viewers for the time slot. It continued the trend of previous weeks, with the second film in the series, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets generating 3.9 million viewers for ITV last month.
In the usually hotly contested prime time slot, John Bishop’s Britain was a clear favourite for BBC One, earning 4.1 million viewers and a 20% share of viewers.
Elsewhere, Channel 4’s Saturday night movie, Watchmen, was the channel’s biggest ratings winner, gaining 1.1 million viewers and a 9.1% share from 10pm.
With the exception of Harry Potter, BBC One gained the most viewers over the course of the entire day.
