TV Overnights: ITV1’s football coverage scores a high of 5.3m

ITV1’s UEFA Champions League Live coverage peaked with 5.3 million viewers during prime time last night.

The full Tottenham v Real Madrid game, which saw Spurs lose 1-0, attracted 4.5 million average viewers and a 19.5% audience share between 7.30pm and 10pm.

However, the football was overshadowed by BBC One’s prime time line-up. All new DIY SOS: The Big Build banked the top ratings with a peak audience of 6.3 million viewers between 7.30pm and 8.30pm.

And at 9.15pm, BBC One reclaimed the top spot with Masterchef, which pulled in a high of more than 5.7 million viewers and a 20.8% average audience share.

Elsewhere, Channel 5’s popular NCIS claimed 1.9 million average viewers and a 7.8% share during the 9pm to 10pm peak-hour, while BBC Two’s The Crimson Petal and the White achieved an average audience of 1.6 million viewers and a 6.5% share.

On Channel 4, Jamie’s Dream School picked up 1.2 million viewers during the peak-hour, before the new series of Desperate Housewives banked 1.3 million viewers in the 10pm to 11pm slot.
