Arsenal’s impressive 6-0 win against the Portuguese outfit Braga didn’t have quite as much impact on the Wednesday night ratings as it did on the Champions League.
Despite a good performance from the London club, BBC One claimed the majority of the peak audience share during last night’s prime time television slot.
BBC One’s popular school drama Waterloo Road secured the peak ratings from 8.15pm through to 9pm, with 4.7 million peak viewers and a 20.2% average audience share, before the second episode of the channel’s new reality show The Young Ones took over during the all-important 9pm to 10pm peak hour.
ITV1’s football coverage made a slight dent on BBC One’s run in-between the two shows, but on the whole, The Young Ones dominated the peak-time ratings with more than 3.9 million viewers and a 15.9% average audience share.
However, ITV1’s Champions League coverage did manage to attract a decent 3.5 million viewers and a 16.1% average audience share between 7.30pm and 10pm, as well as the peak ratings at 8pm and then again at 9pm.
Elsewhere, Channel 4’s all-new Grand Designs series with Kevin McCloud pulled in 3.3 million average viewers and a 14.6% share between 9pm and 10pm, while Five’s popular NCIS picked up 1.3 million viewers and a 5.9% share.
Meanwhile, a low 872,000 viewers tuned in to BBC Two’s peak-hour programme The Big School Lottery.
