ITV1’s new five part drama Marchlands started on a high of 6.2 million viewers last night.
The peak-hour drama about three families living in the same house in different decades who are linked by a death of a girl in 1967 secured 5.9 million average viewers and a 25.1% share between 9pm and 10pm.
ITV1 also banked a peak run during the pre-watershed slot with Emmerdale and Coronation Street. Emmerdale pulled in 7.2 million viewers between 8pm and 8.30pm, while Corrie picked up 8 million viewers during the 8.30pm to 9pm slot.
Elsewhere, Eastenders provided BBC One’s top ratings – peaking with more than 9 million viewers and a 38.8% average share between 7.30pm and 8pm.
The fourth episode of Human Planet followed with 4.4 million average viewers, before Outnumbered attracted 3.5 million viewers in the 9pm to 9.30pm slot.
On BBC Two, Louis Theroux’s new show The Ultra Zionists achieved a peak audience of 1.8 million viewers during the 9pm to 10pm peak-hour, while Channel 4’s Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day hit a high of 1.5 million.
At the same time, Channel 5’s Justin Lee Collins: Turning Japanese continued with a low 789,000 viewers and a 3.3% share.
