TV Overnights: The Apprentice wins a high of 7.7m viewers

BBC One won the peak ratings throughout most of last night’s prime time line-up, seeing off competition from ITV1’s UEFA Champions League coverage in the process.

The Apprentice banked the all-important 9pm to 10pm peak-hour ratings, pulling in a high of more than 7.7 million peak viewers and a 28% average audience share as the series nears to an end.

Meanwhile, Nigel Slater’s Simple Suppers proved popular in the 8.30pm to 9pm slot, attracting 4.2 million peak viewers and a 16% average audience share.

Earlier on in the evening, BBC One also secured the top spot with Wallace & Gromit’s World of Invention, which picked up 4.6 million viewers and a 20.3% share between 7.30pm and 8pm.

However, ITV1 did get a look in. The football attracted the peak ratings for 30-minutes between 8pm and 8.30pm with a high of 4.8 million viewers. Overall, the Arsenal v Partizan Belgrade match pulled in 3.9 million average viewers and a 15.9% share between 7.30pm and 10pm.

Although Coronation Street proved to be ITV1’s Wednesday-night ratings gem. The soap’s 50th anniversary week special continued with a bang, securing an impressive 10.9 million peak viewers and a 43.9% average share during the early-evening 7pm to 7.30pm slot.
