Total terrestrial television was estimated to have brought in ad revenue of £198.61 million. Of this, ITV brought in £138.64m (down 6.4% year on year), C4 £43.9m (down 0.2%), C5 £10.57m and GMTV £5.5m (down 14.1%).

The ad industry will be pleased with the fact that a number of ITV audiences and all of C4’s showed year on year increases in impacts during March. For ITV Men went up 2.8% while there were small rises for Housewives and Housewives/Children. There were large rises for some of the C4 audiences, with ABC1 Adults increasing by almost 10% while Men went up 8.7%.

Due to the rises in impacts CPTs fell across the board for both C4 and ITV during March. For ITV the Men cost per thousand fell 8.8% year on year to 1,554p while Adults, Housewives and Housewives/Children all experienced falls of around the 6% mark. For C4 the biggest drops were for ABC1 Adults (down 8.9%) and Men (down 8%).

ITV will be pleased to see that BBC1’s share of viewing slipped by 1.9% points to 29.7% while it did slightly better with a fall of 1.4% points to 32.6%. Cable and satellite channels collectively saw their share rise by 1.9% points to 13.1%.
