Twitter rolls out ‘relevant headlines’ feature

Twitter has rolled out a new feature that shares ‘related headlines’ for a tweet – a list of web stories that provide additional context from a variety of media outlets.

Related headlines can be accessed by opening up a tweet via the details button, subsequently providing a list of web stories in which that tweet was embedded, making it “easier to discover stories that provide more context”.

The feature will only work for popular and relevant tweets, however it is intended to provide tweets with more context by offering a look at “the stories behind a tweet”, according to Twitter’s blog.

“We think this will help more people discover the larger story behind the Tweet, drive clicks to your articles, and help grow your audience on Twitter,” the company said, citing the Asiana flight 214 crash land at San Francisco International Airport, in which publishers from across the globe embedded tweets to share reports from passengers and eyewitnesses.

Twitter has been testing the feature since early July and it has now become an integrated part of the social networking site.
