UBC Joins Sales Forces With Emap For Traffic And Travel

Radio giants UBC and Emap have announced a deal which will see the two companies consolidate their radio airtime sales for traffic and travel across both groups networks.

The joint package, to be sold by UBC’s commercial division, will include over 170 radio stations including EMAP Radio, GWR Group, The Wireless Group, Chrysalis Radio, Guardian Media Group and UKRD.

The combined advertising package will be available to advertisers from August 1, offering the opportunity to tap into one of the largest network packages in the radio industry. The stations involved will deliver a weekly reach of over 14.75 million adults and over 140 million adult impacts.

UBC’s commercial division will now be able to offer 169 million adult impacts each week, an increase of 44% on the impacts available currently, a statistic which the company is confident will contribute to revenue growth.

The deal with Emap will run for two years. Commenting on the agreement, Simon Cole, chief executive of UBC said: “I am delighted that UBC and EMAP have reached agreement on consolidating our respective traffic and travel network sales contracts. This is yet another positive development for UBC’s airtime sales business, which has delivered significant growth over the last year and continues to build market share.”

Emap Advertising’s broadcast sales director, Tim Bleakley added: “Both UBC and Emap have invested significant resource in developing credible traffic and travel syndicated network sales packages. With combined scale, the consolidated Traffic and Travel package with neutral sales representation via UBC allows the package to focus on growing revenues for commercial radio, offering superb value for advertisers. Its good news for all stakeholders.”

Today saw UBC reveal strong performance in a pre-AGM statement. The company has seen a remarkable increase of 78% year on year in sales, attributed directly to successes within its commercial division.

Last month the company announced that it is beginning to reap the benefits of the emerging digital radio market, as revenues for the year grew by 29.1% to £13.3 million. The group also revealed a 62% increase in revenue from its Unique Interactive unit, which supplies digital radio software to over five countries, as well as a further two digital radio contracts with Intereconomia in Spain and Pure Digital in the UK (see Digital Radio Helps Boost Revenues At UBC).
