UK Adspend Tops £15bn for 1999
UK advertisers spent a total of £15.3bn across all media last year, an increase of nearly £1bn compared to the previous year. The highest area of spending was television, where £4.3bn was spent, an increase of nearly £300m or 7.2%.

According to the latest figures released by the Advertising Association, the biggest areas of growth were the cinema, direct mail and radio sectors. Spending on cinema advertising rose 26% from £97m to £123m, although the sector still represents just 0.8% of total spending. Radio spending rose 12% to £516m, giving it 3.3% of total spending, while money spent on direct mail grew by 12.6% to £1876m, or 12% of total spending.

The year saw increases across all sectors and was the eighth consecutive year of growth. The Advertising Association predicts that the current growth rate will continue throughout this year.
