UK Brands Growing Online As One Quarter Of Households Have Internet Access
More than 7 million households in the UK now have access to the internet. This figure, which represents more than a quarter of UK homes, has grown from 4.9 million when researchers MMXI Europe began its monthly reporting in October last year.
Around 20 million individuals are now thought to have access to the internet at home. Just over half of these accessed the internet during June.
MMXI research has also shown that British brands are becoming more popular on the web for UK users. US brands MSN.com and Yahoo.com continue to be among the most popular, but now websites for offline brands such as the BBC, Virgin and BT are increasing in popularity.
In addition to this, UK internet companies are starting to make their mark in UK internet usage charts. Brands including Lastminute.com, Egg.com, Demon.net, Freeserve.com and Sports.com are becoming more established as favourite sites. Freeserve remains in the top three of all brands for UK internet users, while the BBC has moved from number 10 to number 9, Egg from 35 to 30 and BT from 33 to 25.
