UK TV Revenue To Grow 4% In 2003, Says Billetts

UK television advertising revenue will grow by 4% this year, in a total market up by 4%-5%, according to new forecasts from media audit consultancy, Billetts.

A pick-up in spend that began in Q4 2002 is expected to continue into this year and overall growth is forecast to be the same this year as last, as shown.

The report predicts that most advertisers will increase their television expenditure in 2003 and that commercial audiences will grow, led by increasing multi-channel penetration. This will lead to another difficult year for ITV1; Billetts expects ITV revenue to fall 1%, whilst multi-channel’s increases by 21%.

Adult commercial impacts are forecast to grow by 2% this year, after a 2% rise in 2002 and no growth in 2001. This growth is again to come from the multi-channel sector at the expense of ITV1 and, to a lesser extent, Channel 4.

Billetts also says that the inflation of costs per thousand will be 2% this year, the same as last year, and that prices are now around the same level as in 1999.
