US Broadband Development Will Fall Behind Other Countries, Says Bill Gates

Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft, has blamed operators’ high prices for the lagging development of broadband internet access in the US, according to a report in the Financial Times.

Gates told the World Economic Forum this weekend that the US’ high-speed residential communications development will fall behind other countries for the next five to six years as a result of companies failing to stimulate demand for their services, the paper reports.

Instead of cutting prices, US telecommunications companies have raised them recently, further stifling development, said Gates.
