US High-Speed Internet Lines Jump 23% In Second Half

The adoption of high-speed internet services continued apace in the US during the second half of last year, with a growth of 23% in the number of lines in use, according to the latest data from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The number of lines rose from 16.2 million to 19.9 million in H2; in the first half, the growth rate was 27%. This gives a full year growth in high-speed lines of 55%.

Cable modem remains the most popular high-speed platform, growing by 24% to cover 11.4 million lines in H2. ADSL saw a slightly higher growth rate of 27%, from 5.1 million to 6.5 million lines.
