US Internet Access Market Continues To Grow

The US internet access services market is expected to have strong single digit growth over the next five years, with broadband revenues remaining as the single largest driver in this sector.

As demand for internet dial-up services continue to decline, access to the web via broadband is expected to remain strong in both the consumer and business market, says a new report from high-tech market research firm, In-Stat/MDR.

Senior analyst, Daryl Schoolar said: “A common theme found across both the consumer and business market is the continuing decline in dial-up services. Both markets are continuing to migrate away from his lower-bandwidth services towards broadband.”

In 2003, the internet access market generated $35.1 billion, with consumer access services generating nearly two-thirds of this revenue and by 2008, broadband is expected to generate 71% of revenue, compared to only 50% at the end of last year.

A report from Nielsen//NetRatings shows that as US internet access hits a plateau, broadband is going to be the driving force behind future internet revenues (see Broadband Usage Closes In On Narrowband).
