US online video adspend to hit $5.2bn

Almost 67% of US internet users – 147.5 million people – watch video online each month, according to new research.

eMarketer forecasts that by 2014, this figure will rise to 77% of internet users, or 193.1 million people.

In the same period, online video advertising spending will grow from $1.4 billion to $5.2 billion, eMarketer adds.

Earlier this week, figures from comScore revealed that UK online video viewing rose 37% year on year in February.

Google Sites grew 17% year on year, driven by the popularity of YouTube, with 2.5 billion videos viewed during February.

US figures from comScore, meanwhile, show that 28.1 billion videos were watched in the US in February, with 42.5% of videos viewed on Google sites.
