Videoplaza urges monetisation for connected devices

A report by Videoplaza, entitled The Future of TV has revealed that media owners are risking the possibility of missing out on growth by not monetising advertising across connected devices.

Videoplaza urges broadcasters to “prepare for IP to keep or grow [their] market share”.

The report argues strongly in favour of having a “clear strategy in place across a number of key areas – content, distribution, devices and technology – to succeed in an IP-delivered world”.

Other findings of the report are as follows:

  • Television still provides superior reach, but the broadcast TV advertising market isn’t growing either in Europe or the US.
  • The number of connected devices is growing, with around 124 million in western Europe and North America.
  • IP-delivered video advertising is not experiencing the same rise as video consumption on connected devices – it is, however, growing faster than TV.
  • Growth rates for IP-delivered video advertising will jump to £460 million (an estimated 2% of global TV ad spend) – an increase of 53% on last year.
  • Delivery of ads to non-PC connected devices increased from 2% to 16% over the past year.
