Virgin Media To Target The Affluent

Virgin Media Logo Virgin Media is to launch a home media package targeting households that are willing to spend more than £1,000 per year on a combination of products.

According to a report in the Guardian, customers will be able to get a top of the range digital TV service, home phone and broadband package for £85 a month.

Virgin Media is a new company formed from the merger last year of NTL:Telewest and Virgin Mobile (see NTL To Become Virgin Media Early Next Year).

The Guardian, which has seen a leaked price structure of the new Virgin Media packages, says that most of the bundled packages on offer look very similar to older NTL services.

However, Virgin Media has apparently put together a package called the ‘Very Impressive Pack’, aimed at the highest spending households.

Consumers who sign up to this will get the new Vplus digital TV, a personal video recorder and high definition signal including the Sky Sports and movie packages.

Subscribers will also receive a second set-top box and a new video on demand service. In addition customers will get a 10Mb, unlimited broadband connection and a home landline with unlimited calls to other homes.

The Guardian reports a Virgin Spokesman as saying that the deal represents a saving of around £37 per month when weighed against buying each component separately.
