Virgin Radio has confirmed that Chris Evans’ contract with the station has been terminated (see SMG To Part With Absentee Evans?). A spokesman for the station said that due to the events of the past week they had no choice but to take this action, as the breakfast presenter had breached his contract.
The spokesman added that whilst they were “very sad” that it ended this way, Evans had recently not been ‘giving 100%’. A new breakfast show will now be hosted by Steve Penk.
A 4:00pm this afternoon shares in SMG, Virgin Radio’s parent company, were up 2p at 167½p on the news.
