Weakest Link Proves Early Hit For NBC

Anne Robinson-hosted elimination quiz show, The Weakest Link, has been exported to the NBC television network in the US, where it is currently pulling in large audiences.

According to an analysis of Nielsen Media Research viewing figures by Mediaweek.com, NBC achieve the highest primetime ratings in the Adults 18-49 and 25-54 categories; each grew by 18% year on year. This puts the network second just behind CBS in the weekly ratings, largely thanks to the one programme, which was shown three times in the week.

The first edition, shown last Monday, brought in 15.1 million viewers; this then rose to 17.5 million for Wednesday’s programme.

NBC is pinning its hopes on The Weakest Link and has ordered a further 13 editions, taking the total to 26. However, Mediaweek.com warns that the appeal of the show, which is also hosted by Robinson in the US, could burn out ‘very quickly’.
