What’s On TV Magazine Extends To Mobile Phones

What's On TV Mag Logo IPC’s market leading TV Listings magazine, What’s On TV, is expanding the title to allow users to access TV news and programme listings via mobile phones.

From next month, a variety of services will be available on What’s On TV mobile, including a TV search facility, which enables users to check the times of television programmes in their region.

There will also be paid-for elements including ringtones and wallpapers from shows such as Lost, Desperate Housewives, The OC and One Tree Hill, as well as SMS alerts for soap information and programme reminders.

Philippa Brown, IPC tx managing director, said: “What’s On TV is the UK’s favourite TV weekly and is a very powerful brand that translates well onto the mobile platform. Our readers are huge TV fans who will really value the ability to access the latest soaps gossip and listings via their mobile.”

Miles Ross, IPC Media head of mobile, added: “There’s a lot of excitement surrounding digital innovations in TV right now, such as mobile TV and TV via the internet. Combined with the massive growth in mobile use, this makes it the perfect time for What’s On TV, the UK’s favourite TV weekly, to launch What’s On TV mobile.”

The title remains the UK’s best-selling magazine in the sector with a circulation of 1,502,977, despite sales dipping by 84,601 in July to December 2005’s ABCs (see ABC Results Jul-Dec 2005:TV Listings Suffer Decline, While Soap Sees Mixed Results). ABC figures for January to June 2006 will be released this week.
