Whitechapel finale pulls in 7.7 million viewers

ITV Logo ITV1’s popular crime-drama Whitechapel ended on a high last night with 7.7 million peak viewers – almost 30% of the audience share – between 9pm and 10pm.

More than 7.5 million average viewers tuned in to see the series’ conclusion, which starred Rupert Penry-Jones and Steve Pemberton, taking ITV1 well ahead of its rivals during the peak-time ratings war.

However, BBC One’s family roots programme Who Do You Think You Are?, with chef Rick Stein, managed to pull in a respectable 5.7 million peak viewers and a 21.6% audience share.

Meanwhile, Channel 4’s new Kray twins documentary, The Gangster and the Pervert Peer, only attracted 1.3 million peak viewers and a 4.9% audience share between 9pm and 10pm.

At the same time, Five’s World War Two film Windtalkers, with Nicholas Cage, picked up 1.1 million average viewers, while BBC Two’s last in the series of Moses Jones pulled in just 1 million average viewers.

ITV1’s Coronation Street managed to secure the highest ratings of the evening, just beating BBC One’s Eastenders to the top spot, with an impressive 10.2 million peak viewers compared with Eastenders 9.6 million peak viewers.
