Xfm Gives Listeners A Taste Of The Big Apple

Capital Radio’s indie music station, Xfm, will this month partner with New York’s K-ROCK station to give listeners a taste of America’s hottest new music months before it hit UK stores.

The project will see Xfm’s latest show, Import : Export, broadcast on both American and UK airwaves as Xfm DJ Ian Camfield and K-ROCK’s Danni exchange the “most wanted” music from their respective countries.

The show will be broadcast on Friday nights for one hour from 9pm. The first broadcast will be made on April 30th.

Commenting on the co-operation between the two stations, Xfm’s programme controller, Andy Ashton, said: “This is an absolute radio first with two music giants on either side of the Atlantic getting together to deliver exclusives and introduce brand new bands to their respective audiences. We’re smashing the old guard of radio first plays, with K-ROCK bringing new music to the Xfm audience before other UK radio stations even get their promotional copies.”

He added: “Equally Xfm has a great track record for breaking new music onto other radio stations and into other markets. This is really going to stir things up in the UK and I look forward to Xfm’s relationship with the mighty K-ROCK developing through 2004.”

Earlier this month Capital Radio indicated in its first half trading statement that revenues would increase by 3% year on year. The company credited its success to the strong growth being achieved by Xfm and returning confidence from advertisers (see Capital Radio Revenues Nudge Up 3% In First Half).
