YouTube Set To Feature Homepage Ads

YouTube YouTube is set to feature a banner ad across its homepage for the first time, designed to accomodate high-definition videos.

The Google-owned website currently has minimal advertising on its homepage, but if the plans for the new banner ad go ahead YouTube could charge up to $200,000 (£109,000) a day for the spot, according to reports.

Directors at the website are apparently in talks with sponsors at the moment and, if the idea is given a seal of approval, the first ad could run as soon as the next two weeks.

The banner ad would potentially span the whole width of the page and will be the same height as the video ad unit currently featured ot the YouTube’s homepage.

Google has not confirmed the reports but said: “We are constantly exploring and experimenting with a wide variety of ways to monetise online video content.”
