5.8m Tune Into Ashes To Ashes

Ashes To Ashes The second instalment of new BBC One series Ashes To Ashes had a peak audience of 5.8 million adults (a 26.3% share of viewers) last night.

Although this was down from last week’s peak of 6.7 million adults, it was still the most viewed show in the 9pm timeslot.

It was up against ITV1’s slightly grittier portrayal of the police, Trial And Retribution.

Starring Victoria Smurfit, the grisly cop show had a peak audience of 4.6 million adult viewers and an average of 4.4 million stuck with it throughout its hour long running time.

Over on Channel 4 was the thought provoking documentary Baby Bible Bashers, which picked up a peak of 1.5 million adults (a 6.7% share of viewing).

The programme, part of the Cutting Edge strand, followed child preachers as they sought to spread God’s word and looked at the sometimes disturbing truth behind child evangelism.

Five, meanwhile, aired live UEFA Cup Football in the form of Slavia Prague v Tottenham Hotspur, with Tottenham eventually winning by two goals to one.

It was a good game for the neutral to watch, with a barnstorming finish, and the coverage had a peak audience of 2.4 million adults.

The match was watched by an average of 1.8 million adults, giving Five a viewing share of 8.2% between 7.30pm and 10pm.
