IPC Aims For The Stars With New Celebrity Launch

IPC Media is extending its homes portfolio with the launch of a new title called Celebrity Living, which claims to bring together the glamour of celebrity and the glossy world of interiors.

The new monthly title will launch on 20 May with a coverprice of £1.80. It will feature a mix of celebrity homes stories, decorating advice and tips from the designers who style the homes of the rich and famous.

The editorial line-up will be lead by InStyle deputy editor, Tammy Butt, who said: “Everyone is fascinated by celebrity lifestyle. But we’ve got the JLo tracksuit, we’ve had the Gwyneth hair-cut. Now readers want to know how the celebrities live off the red carpet and behind closed doors.”

The launch follows research from IPC which shows that the current fascination with the lives of the rich and famous now extends beyond what the stars are wearing to where and how they live. Yvonne Ramsden, publishing director of IPC SouthBank’s home interest portfolio, said: “Celebrity Living will provide unrivalled expertise in interiors advice and exclusive celebrity access.”

Celebrity Living will be supported by a promotional media campaign across AOL and will also feature in titles from the IPC SouthBank, Connect and tx portfolios. IPC claims these publishing divisions account for around 18.6 million readers.

The wide-spread public interest in the lives of the rich and famous is far from waning, but the latest ABC consumer magazine figures for the six months to December 2003 revealed a slowdown in the rapid growth of the celebrity magazine sector. Hello saw circulation decline by almost 36% year on year and Now suffered a 6.1% decline during the same period to below 600,000.

However, the wide-spread public interest in the lives of celebrities appears to be far from waning and IPC recently announced the launch of TeenNow, a weekly celebrity magazine for older teenage girls (see IPC To Take On Sneak With Teen Version Of Now).
