FT Appoints Grimshaw As First Global Ad Boss

FT The Financial Times has appointed its first head of global advertising, promoting Rob Grimshaw into the newly created role to oversee the title’s worldwide strategy and operations.

The move will see Grimshaw take responsibility for advertising across online and print, as well as continuing his current role as head of client sales and key accounts.

The FT’s worldwide advertising director, Ben Hughes, explained the appointment, stating: “The FT works with advertisers across all sectors and across the world. The complexity of its multimedia portfolio is steadily increasing and Rob will be managing this development.

“He is a hugely talented member of the sales team and I know he will be a success in his new role.”

The FT has placed growing significance on its online operations in recent months, as the company’s director of online publishing Nigel Pocklington explained at the recent Ad:Tech London conference, media owners need to master “effective convergence” of their online and offline properties if they are to survive in the future (see FT Boss Claims Convergence Is The Key To Success).

Pocklington explained that “consumer habits have changed. It took the FT over 100 years to reach a million people in print. It has taken us less than ten years to reach four million online.”
