IPA Appoints New Media Consultant To Represent Industry

The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising has appointed Valerie Schafer as its new e-commerce and new media consultant, assuming responsibility for the body’s Digital Marketing Group and IPA Outdoor Group in representing the interests of outdoor advertising and digital media members.

The new role will see Schafer take over from Nigel Gwilliam, who left the IPA in December to pursue personal interests. She will bring a great deal of experience to the IPA, having begun working in digital media in 1994 with positions within agencies and large corporations such as Citibank, Toyota, and FedEx under her belt.

Commenting on her appointment Schafer said: “I am very excited about working at the IPA. Being on the agency side for 10 years, I am looking forward to working with committee members to heighten exposure of industry advancements and continue to develop programs that keep us on the forefront of our respective fields.”

John Owen, chairman of the IPA Digital Marketing Group added: “With such a solid grounding in digital media and technology, Valerie’s appointment will be of huge benefit to the IPA Digital Marketing Group. We warmly welcome her on board.”

Commenting on Schafer’s appointment to oversee the IPA Outdoor Group, Paul Shearring, chairman of the group and managing partner at Poster Publicity said: “Valerie will be a welcome addition to the IPA Outdoor Group and I am certain that her wealth of experience working with high profile clients will be an asset to the group.”

The IPA council recently nominated David Pattison, worldwide chief executive of PHD Network, to succeed Stephen Woodford of WCRS as president of the IPA. The move made Pattison the first media agency chief to be nominated for the position. He is expected to undertake the two year tenure from April if elected (see Pattison Nominated As New IPA President).
