IPC Homes Publisher Joins TX As Listings Battle Hots Up

IPC tx has appointed Amy Culligan as publisher of What’s on TV as the title continues to compete on reduced cover prices with rivals in what some believe could escalate into a full-blown listings price war.

The appointment will see Culligan join IPC tx from IPC SouthBank, where she was publisher of the Home Interest Group, comprising seven titles including Ideal Home and the recently redesigned Homes & Gardens (see IPC Challenges Highbury On Home Front).

Commenting on the appointment, What’s on TV publishing director, Charlie Meredith, said: “I have known Amy for several years and am sure that she will be a fantastic addition to the tx publishing team. I am delighted that she is coming to work on the brand at such an exciting time in its history, when significant investment in marketing, combined with a reduced cover price, is set to drive IPC’s biggest title to even greater things.”

Culligan added: “It’s a great honour to be offered the role of publisher on Britain’s best-selling magazine. I’m really looking forward to joining the tx group and working with the What’s On TV team.”

What’s on TV is currently the best-selling TV listings magazine in the country, with a circulation of nearly 1.6 million. The title’s recent cover price cut has seen competition from H Bauer’s TV Choice intensify, as Bauer’s title attempts to overtake Radio Times to become the nation’s second best selling listings title.

Radio Times, however, recently unveiled a £1 million promotional campaign, attempting to reinforce the message created by a redesign and editorial revamp last year (see NewsLine).
