NRS Data Delayed As Processing Procedures Revised

Ipsos-RSL has announced that the National Readership Survey results for the period ending December 2004 will be delayed following the incorporation of the London self-completion questionnaire data in the NRS database as “extensive” revisions to the company’s data processing procedures are needed to accommodate the new figures.

In an e-mail sent to NRS subscribers the company expressed regret at the delay, stating that the original release date of 14 March will now be changed to 21 March to allow for the changes to be made.

Explaining its position Ipsos stated: “These data were included for the first time for Quarter 3. Due to a processing error this release had to be re-issued. Following on from this error Ipsos has revised its procedures for incorporating the self-completion data.”

The company had hoped to make up the time it had spent on the processing revisions, but stated that it was now clear that it would not be able to. Ipsos apologised for the delay, the short notice given and for any inconvenience caused to NRS subscribers.

The statement said: “NRS data to December 2004 will now be available to subscribers on the NRS website from Monday 21st March. Subscribers will be able to access the full NRS database via authorised computer bureaux from Wednesday 30th March.”

Ipsos’ initial processing error was first made public in January, with data on average issue readership estimates requiring attention, as did some frequency of reading figures, source of copy data and “how disappointed?” results (see NRS To Re-Issue Data For Period To September ’04).
