Duncan George Appointed Commercial Boss At GCap

Duncan George Radio giant GCap Media has appointed Duncan George as its new commercial director, assuming responsibility for all national and London commercial revenue streams following the company’s launch of a “root and branch” strategic review.

Reporting to operations director Steve Orchard, George will focus on GCap’s strategy to drive long term profit growth through innovative client solutions, non-traditional revenue streams and regional launches. The new commercial boss will also liaise with the media, City and shareholders on commercial matters, sitting on the board of both RAJAR and the RAB.

Amongst the new revenue streams being mulled by GCap are on-line broadcasting, podcasting, encouraging digital growth and developing smaller brands such as Classic FM, Xfm and Planet Rock.

George will oversee the launch of Xfm Scotland and Manchester, as well as further roll out of the brand across GCap’s current Storm licences to create a strong new Xfm network for advertisers.

Commenting on the his appointment, George said: “I am delighted to have been appointed commercial director at such a exciting and challenging time for the company. With the relaunch of Capital Radio in London and the creation of a stronger network for Xfm, we will be able to deliver some great new opportunities for our clients over the coming year.

“As digital radio takes off, I am focused on ensuring that GCap Media is one of the UK’s most innovative and proactive media owners with the highest levels of customer service in the industry.”

Earlier this month GCap Media chief executive Ralph Bernard urged a shift in focus away from analogue licences towards a fully digital radio industry, stating that the “fight” over analogue audiences was a distraction from the numerous benefits of digital (see Radio Heads Urge Focus On Digital Future).
