Thomson Signs Northcliffe and Johnston For Ad Data

Man Reading A Newspaper Advertising monitor, Thomson Intermedia, has secured deals with the Northcliffe Newspaper Group and Johnston Press to add more than 350 regional titles to its database of advertisement placements, providing increased accountability and analysis.

Thomson’s system enables planners and buyers to check whether advertisements have run, recover lost advertising spend and analyse marketing activity by competitors.

The newly added titles will add Northcliffe and Johnston data to Thomson’s measurement of around 20,000 ad placements every day across every media platform.

The deals are exclusive to Thomson, with a spokesman for the company stating: “Together [the deals] will significantly enhance the company’s coverage of the UK’s regional newspapers.”

Last year saw Northcliffe Newspapers expand its portfolio, acquiring classified advertising specialist Bargain Pages Media for a total of £8.5 million. The purchase gave Northcliffe control of the Bargain Pages newspaper’s three editions, covering most of the midlands, including Coventry and the Black Country, with combined weekly sales of around 50,000 copies (see Daily Mail Snaps Up Midlands Bargain Papers).
