FT To Launch Women’s Fashion Supplement

The Financial Times has announced that it will publish a glossy colour supplement on the 24 February, building on last month’s male-focussed Business of Fashion supplement with a women’s edition.

The supplement, entitled The Business of Fashion: Women’s Wear Spring/Summer 2005 will only be distributed in the UK and Europe and will explore issues within the female fashion industry. It follows last months Business of Fashion: Menswear Spring/Summer 2005 supplement.

Commenting on the new publication, Vanessa Friedman, fashion editor said: “The Business of Fashion magazines will take a serious, informed, and global look at an industry that touches on everyone’s life, getting past the frills and fantasy to the strategic core.”

She added: “There is no better example than this issue’s analysis of the current explosion in ready-to-wear prices, which examines the phenomenon from economic, creative, and consumer angles.”

Recently the Financial Times has faced problems with redundancies following a wide-ranging cost-cutting programme, designed to save the paper around £7 million. Reports early this month suggested that at least 20 journalist s would leave the troubled paper following a voluntary redundancy programme.

The Financial Times looks set to publish two further Business of Fashion magazines in 2005.
