Joey Loses Over A Million Viewers

Five’s Joey lost over one million viewers last night, with the Friends spin-off being watched by a peak of 2.8 million viewers and a 11% audience share, compared to last week which saw over four million people tune in.

The eagerly anticipated show follows popular Friends character Joey Tribbiani as he moves to Hollywood. Last weeks debut double episode attracted a massive 4.3 million and a 16% share of viewing, and was one of Five’s best performances to date.

Last week’s show grabbed the largest share of 16-34 year olds, at 34%, entering Five’s history as the highest-rating programme aside from sporting events and films ever to air on the channel.

Last night however, the sitcom faired less well, losing figures to rival channels. Commercial broadcaster, ITV captured the largest audience of the night, with The Royal drawing in a peak of 7.5 million viewers, a 29.3% share. The BBC’s Down To Earth, followed, attracting 5.8 million viewers and a 22.7 % share.

Five won the rights to the sitcom last August after Channel 4 withdrew from the tough bidding wars, claiming that the price had risen too high for the programme. Five has reportly spent around £250,000, per episode on the series.

Last month food manufacturer, Ginsters, secured sponsorship of Joey, giving the company sponsorship credits, on-air promotional trailers and additional exposure on all press and off-air marketing.
