Telegraph Could Expand To Linear TV Programming

Telegraph The Telegraph newspaper has hired the former MD of national brands at Emap Radio, Shaun Gregory, as development director for the Telegraph Media Group, overseeing new ventures in broadcasting, mobile and online.

The move is widely expected to see the newspaper’s new multi-tasking newsroom (see Newspapers In Multi-Media Reshuffle) contribute bulletins to linear TV news programmes, as last month the newspaper announced a partnership with TV news service provider ITN to produce video content for telegraph.co.uk and other electronic media. However, this arrangement is expected to expand into linear TV programming.

It is understood that a new television channel, featuring Telegraph content, is likely to be broadcast online initially with a view to securing carriage on the Freeview and Sky digital platforms.

Insiders have told the trade press that Gregory will be working closely with the commercial teams to accelerate the migration of traditional revenue to online solutions.
