Big Brother Brings In Five Million Viewers As Final Week Approaches

Big Brother Logo Big Brother witnessed another eviction on Friday evening, as the final countdown begins to see who will walk away with the grand prize.

A peak of five million adult viewers watched the live eviction programme, while the earlier edition, at 8.30pm attracted around the same amount of viewers, with 5.3 million adults tuning in to check out the latest action.

Big Brother has been the subject of some controversy in the past week after conducting a vote to see which housemate would be reintroduced into the house, triggering scores of complaints to media regulator Ofcom (see Complaints Over Returning Big Brother Contestants).

The big winner on Friday though was ITV, which managed to attract peak audiences of 7.1 and 8.5 million adults for Emmerdale and Coronation Street respectively. Emmerdale managed an average adult audience of 6.8 million adult viewers (a 43% audience share) in its 7pm timeslot, whilst Coronation Street managed to bring in an average of 8.3 million adults (a 48% audience share) following on from the rural soap.

The best performer for BBC One was Eastenders, with a peak of 6.8 million adults (a 38% audience share) in its 8pm slot.
