AA Sees UK Ad Spend Outstripping Rival Nations

Sunny Skies Advertising expenditure is growing faster in the United Kingdom than in either Europe or the USA, according to the latest figures from the Advertising Association (AA).

The AA’s figures show a year on year increase of 1.8% in ad expenditure during 2005, after adjusting for inflation. The trade body expects this increase to continue, with a 2.6% rise anticipated for the whole of 2006.

Conducted in association with the World Advertising Research Center (WARC), the AA’s figured form part of its European Advertising and Media Forecast Databook. In addition to forecasting strong growth in adspend for the UK, the Databook expects a 2.2% increase in the USA, and a 1.4% rise for the Eurozone.

The AA’s forecasts for the UK are less optimistic than those issued by Thompson Intermedia earlier this year, which claimed an increase of 5.4% in adspend during 2005, despite industry fears that the internet’s dominance would take marketers’ budgets away from traditional media (see UK Adspend Up By 5.4% In 2005).
