Opinionated Line Up For TV Festival

TV Festival Logo This year’s Edinburgh International TV festival looks set to spark controversy, as a string of opinionated media figures go head to head in what promises to be a heated debate over the industry’s future.

Politicians George Galloway and Al Gore will join the creators of South Park and former Sun editor Kelvin MacKenzie in speaking at the event, with Galloway and MacKenzie’s debate over TV politics sure to attract a capacity crowd.

Also due to address the conference is the BBC’s ‘scud stud’ journalist Rageh Omaar, while Armando Iannucci, the man behind many of TV’s most ironic comedy series will also make an appearance.

This year’s MacTaggart Lecture should also prove a must-see event, with ITV chief executive Charles Allen taking the stage to deliver his view on the industry.

Announcing the line-up, Alison Sharman, advisory chair for the festival, said: “I am very excited by the quality and breadth of the speakers announced. I am sure they will make waves – and make news – in their contribution to the great debate of our broadcasting time: how do we all as broadcasters respond to the huge challenges of the rapidly changing digital environment.”
