Talk Radio Looks Likely For Liverpool

Emap Logo Talk radio formats proved to be extremely popular with bidders for the Liverpool FM licence yesterday, with a possible reach of about 1.4 million adults for the chosen station.

Emap Radio went with CityTalk, a station focused on the local area with some programme ideas including Home from the House, where local MPs answer questions from members of the public, Rag Mag, produced by students from John Moores University, and Worldwide Radio, an hour long show from an English-speaking station anywhere in the world.

If Emap is successful with the bid it will be the company’s third station in Liverpool after Magic 1548 AM and Radio City.

Terry Smith, chairman and non-executive director of CityTalk, said: “This will be an entirely new type of station for Liverpool.”

At Emap’s AGM yesterday, outgoing chairman Adam Broadbent warned shareholders of a potential fall in revenues in the first half of the financial year. Following the early release of the AGM statement, shares in Emap fell 12.5%.
