Evening Standard Website To Be Relaunched

This Is London Logo The Evening Standard, owned by Associated Newspapers, is to relaunch its This is London website next month, with the new site placing more emphasis on life in the capital.

The revamped site, which will have a soft launch in August followed by an official unveiling in September, could have its name changed to EveningStandard.co.uk.

The print version of the paper had its own redesign in May, offering a more stylish use of colour in order to attract more affluent working Londoners (see Redesigned Evening Standard To Launch Next Week).

Associated Newspapers is currently in the process of integrating its print and online departments, with journalists from MailonSunday.co.uk and DailyMail.co.uk moving into their respective paper’s newsrooms to work more closely with their print partners.

The revamp is expected to lead to some job losses at Associated New Media, with Nigel Vincent, the executive editor of ANM, and the group’s human resources director having already left.

Last week Associated Newspapers made three web site acquisitions as part of its online strengthening strategy, with £12.3 million being paid for the sites which it values at £17 million. The three businesses’ combined turnover in their latest financial year was approximately £4.5 million.
