Cathcart New Emap Chairman

Cathcart New Emap Chairman

Emap Publishing body, Emap, has announced that Alun Cathcart will assume the position of chairman this summer, following the 2006 annual general meeting.

Cathcart takes over from the current chairman, Adam Broadbent, who will be retiring at the AGM, after the completion of his third term on the board.

Commenting on the move, Broadbent said: “The board looks forward to working with Alun as deputy chairman and eventually as chairman. He has broad public company experience and a strong strategic insight which have been of great value to the group since his appointment as a non-executive director.”

Cathcart will take up the position of deputy chairman with immediate effect so as to facilitate an orderly hand-over of responsibilities.

The end of last year saw Emap announced an increase in revenue of 6% for the six months ending 30 September reaching £554 million, despite a 5% downturn in operating profit and a 2% drop in pre-tax profit, hitting £103 million and £95 million respectively (see Emap Reports 6% Increase In Revenue).

Underlying revenue for the media group rose by a slight 1% in the stated time period, while underlying operating profit was down by 4%, largely due to a weak performance from Emap’s French news-stand division.
