The BBC News at 10pm on BBC One was watched by an average of 4.8 million adults last night, compared to a little under 3.7 million for ITV1’s newly rescheduled News at Ten.
The heavily publicised programme, fronted by Sir Trevor McDonald and Julie Etchingham, managed to gain an 18.7% audience share in the timeslot, whilst the BBC’s show pulled a 23.7% share.
Earlier, Motorway Cops: A Traffic Cops Special, was enjoyed by more than six million adults on average between 9pm and 10pm, with the documentary giving BBC One a 26.2% share.
Over on ITV1, new royal drama, The Palace, managed to gain almost 4.1 million adult viewers, equating to a 17.7% share.
EastEnders, between 8pm and 8.30pm on BBC One, saw almost 9.5 million (41%) watch unlucky in love Dawn on a mission to find a man, with two suitors stepping up to the plate.
Meanwhile, a Coronation Street double bill – with the first episode between 7.30pm and 8pm and the second between 8.30pm and 9pm on ITV1 – drew more than 10.3 million (46.6%) and more than 9.7 million (40.6%) to the channel respectively.
