Clear Channel Outdoor Promotes Atkinson To UK MD

Rob Atkinson Clear Channel Outdoor UK has promoted group sales director, Rob Atkinson, to the position of UK managing director, with responsibility for driving the expansion of the company in Britain.

Atkinson will report to regional president for the UK, Ireland and North Africa, Barry Sayer, and will be in charge of promoting greater synergy across all areas of the business.

Sayer had assumed much of the UK MD role since Julie France resigned after sending rival agencies confidential rates for advertising almost two years ago. Sayer will continue to retain his position as president with CEO responsibilities but hands over day-to-day operations to Atkinson.

Sayer said that through his group sales director role over the past three years, Atkinson had “successfully consolidated, expanded and diversified our sales and marketing operations while encouraging professionalism and teamwork.”

He continued: “Rob’s stewardship of the day-to-day operations of our market-leading UK division will facilitate even greater synergy across our sales, marketing, operations and development divisions at a time when we are aggressively expanding our business and pioneering new developments in outdoor advertising.”

Atkinson added: “I look forward to providing stability, vision and commitment in leading our business forward in what promises to be a landmark period for our company and our industry. While our traditional outdoor formats continue to thrive, the launch of new products this year – such as our Clear Channel Interact mobile service – means that every part of our business must work together to push the boundaries of outdoor and the media industry as a whole.”

Atkinson joined Clear Channel Outdoor in 2005 as group sales director from the Mail On Sunday where he was head of trading, newspapers. He joined Associated Newspapers in 1991 and was appointed sales controller, newspapers, Mail On Sunday in 1999.
