Heat Boosts EMAP Consumer Ad Revenues, Says Lehman

Consumer publishing ad revenues are expected to rise by 5.8% at EMAP, according to a full-year results preview by analysts at Lehman Brothers. The broker expects advertising at the consumer publishing division to come in at £147 million in 2003, up from £139 million last year.

The Consumer division includes titles such as Heat, Closer, FHM and Smash Hits. Its advertising revenues grew by 2.9% in the first half of the year and are forecast to be up by 8.6% in H2.

EMAP’s Performance division, which houses the radio and television businesses, is forecast to show total revenues up by 15.8% at £161 million. Within this, radio revenues will decline by 2.2% to £88 million, whilst TV jumps 161% to £26 million. For both radio and TV, the second half of the year was much stronger than the first.

Overall group turnover is expected to dip by 6.4% to £963.4 million, whilst headline pre-tax profits rise from 2002’s £151.0 million to £171.3 million for the group’s 2003.
