Five Pushes Market Share Up To 8.8% In 2005

Five has announced an increase in net advertising of 0.5% in 2005, with the broadcaster pushing its market share up to 8.8%, up from 8.3%.

According to the channels owner, RTL, Five enjoyed the largest year on year increase out of all the terrestrial broadcasters, with airtime sales rising at three times the rate of the advertising market as a whole, at 9.8%.

Five currently has a 6.6% share of the UK television market and an 8.3% share in homes with Freeview.

RTL completed full control of Five last September, after agreeing with United Business Media to acquire the outstanding 35.4% shareholding for £247.6 million (see RTL Seizes Full Control Of Five).
